Assessment Architecture

Like the blueprint of a house, assessment architecture provides a layout of the plan teachers will use to monitor learning throughout a unit of instruction. The plan includes strategic formative assessment opportunities that will lead to success on summative assessments. Just as the building of an actual house is often modified from the original plans, assessment blueprints are malleable in that teachers will likely need to add, modify, or delete some formative activities as they respond to the emerging evidence of student learning. Assessment architecture, when mapped out in advance, provides teachers with opportunities for the intentional design of assessments, implications for daily instruction, and possible responses to use to maximize effectiveness.
